We were talking to people whose homes were destroyed, and they don't care about the architecture; they don't care about the design—they want to fix the hole in the roof, they want to fix the hole in the wall, Balbek says.
But he also knew that doing so often results in the erasure of an area's cultural heritage. So he set out to create a free online design tool that would preserve it while, crucially, allowing those affected by the war to rebuild quickly and easily.
