Trappudden Vindbak Wind Shelter / Umea School of Architecture
Briefly

The 'From Concept to Structure' summer course allows students to engage in design-build projects, focusing on community and sustainability. This year, students constructed a wind shelter on Holmön, inspired by sea marks and designed to reflect land uplift over time. The structure offers a cozy retreat for hikers, built from prefabricated materials delivered by boat, emphasizing ecological sensitivity. By anchoring with old cables and allowing natural light through a skylight, the project demonstrates innovative construction practices while fostering a connection to the landscape.
The structure is inspired by an old sea mark - a beacon, representing centuries of land uplift, providing both shelter and a lookout point over the beautiful landscape.
The construction process prioritized collaboration with nature, utilizing prefabricated elements that were brought to shore via water, highlighting sustainability and community involvement.
