Helena Bian, founder of Harlowe, desired to create beautiful, functional design since childhood. After working in a male-dominated engineering industry, she founded Harlowe to produce high-design, portable photography lighting. Aimed at traveling creators, Harlowe addresses the need for aesthetic yet practical lighting, moving away from the bland typical products in the market. Despite a higher price point, Bian emphasizes durability and timelessness in her designs, drawing inspiration from vintage cameras to craft lighting equipment that lasts and remains visually attractive.
I want to make sure [our products are] timeless and can live on and be relevant to our customers for a long time, blending beauty and functionality.
For Bian, however, functional doesn't mean bland or ugly, and, she says, 'beautiful doesn't mean expensive.'
