"I like to capture real people and real places subtly making them feel surreal, like a landscape in a daydream," Summer tells us. This interplay between familiarity and surrealism is a hallmark of her work.
"I do this because that is how I experience my own self throughout the day, Our minds and bodies create fantasies for us constantly, begging the question whether or not those are fantasies." These words reveal her perspective that reality and fantasy often intertwine.
"Having a solitary practice in creating these scenes, often through self-portraiture really sparked my love for bringing my imagined life in front of the camera," showing how isolation during the pandemic became a catalyst for her artistic expression.
Summer’s mix of cinematic and literary inspirations—like Virginia Woolf and Ursula K LeGuin—provides a rich depth to her work, blending storytelling with visual art to create layered meanings.
