The newly opened Museo Vivo del Muralismo in Mexico City features over 3,000 sq. m of murals from both modern and contemporary artists. Housed in a historically rich building that once functioned as the Ministry of Public Education, the museum aims to enhance public understanding of muralism in Mexico while providing a space to engage with cultural heritage. The initiative, announced in 2020, promotes values such as justice and critical thinking, reflecting on both historical and contemporary contributions to the art form.
"The museum offers a space to engage with our memory, heritage and culture, promoting values like justice, inclusion, critical thinking and equity," says Gloria Falcón.
"The challenge was to create a historical and thematic narrative of the murals for all audiences while recognising the contributions of other artists, including women," says Mercedes Sierra.
