Rose Lord emphasized at the preview that the new flagship location was built with the primary objective to continuously support the gallery's artists. She stated, “The gallery's mission has always been and will continue to be our commitment to our artists.” This commitment is further reflected in the expansive design which includes large and bright galleries, aiming to provide an improved showcase for artistic expression.
Philipp Kaiser, during the preview, highlighted the transformative nature of the new space as he noted, “The gallery's new home is vertical rather than horizontal.” This shift from a more traditional layout on 57th Street to the five-storey setup at 385 Broadway signifies a significant strategic reorientation, allowing for a diverse presentation of contemporary art.
In a creative homage to the gallery's former headquarters, conceptual artist Pierre Huyghe has contributed artwork by cutting a circular section from the walls of the previous space. Kaiser explained that the two pieces now displayed at the new venue reflect Marian Goodman Gallery's extensive history while aligning with its new vertical structure.
