"When we first saw the outcome, it immediately resembled a tree log, which is why we're naming it a paper log. The marbling is like the rings one finds in a tree."
"The exhibition is about giving different lives or materialities to the same material, but in both explorations, we are trying to keep the memory that is structurally embodied in the paper."
The Paper Log: Shell and Core project reimagines compressed paper rolls, a byproduct of garment pleating, into furniture and sculptures. Each cylinder, resembling a tree log, is unique due to color transfer from the pleating process. The project features a collaboration between MIYAKE DESIGN STUDIO and Ensamble Studio, exploring the material's sculptural and structural aspects. This initiative emphasizes the potential of industrial waste as a source of innovation and creativity, merging design and architecture to inspire new possibilities.
