interview: three stepped pitched-roof forms top note studio's ottsjo villa in sweden
Briefly

Note Design Studio has launched its first architecture project in Ottsjö, marking a transformative shift towards establishing their architectural framework. The design features three interlinked pitched-roof volumes that adapt fluidly to the landscape's contours, enhancing the connection to nature and maximizing functionality through distinct private and shared spaces. Sustainability plays a critical role, with locally sourced materials, including untreated Norrland heartwood and Norwegian marble, used to withstand the challenging mountain climate while enhancing aesthetic appeal. This project showcases the studio's commitment to innovative design and user experience.
We have searched for this opportunity for years and this project marks a significant shift; one where we establish the architectural framework rather than adapting to pre-existing conditions.
The architectural design consists of three identical pitched-roof volumes, interlinked yet offset to capture the stunning mountain views to the west.
The exterior is clad in untreated Norrland heartwood, arranged in varying panel widths to create a subtle variation in the facade.
