Blair House is often referred to as 'the front door of America,' with foreign delegations coming that have possibly never visited our country before. It's really our opportunity to extend just the warmest hospitality. This is such a major part of our diplomatic efforts.
If they were to stay at a hotel, there would be [more] people around and they don't 'own' the space. Here, they're free... We fly their flag outside.
Blair House may owe its existence to Sir Winston Churchill, who 'had a reputation for not being the best house guest.' Mrs. Roosevelt suggested that the [US government] purchase this house.
This historic home celebrates its bicentennial this year and is a serene retreat for visiting dignitaries, allowing them to feel at home during their stay.
