Inside a Photographer's Soulful California Beach House
Briefly

Daisy Johnson, a photographer from New York, transitioned to a Malibu lifestyle seeking more connection to nature. Inspired by the community and beauty of Paradise Cove, she discovered a cottage that felt like a blank canvas. Collaborating with interior designer Lauren Garrett from LP Creative, Johnson aimed to create a welcoming surf cabin. The design embraced imperfections, opting for natural textures and soft colors to bring warmth and character, ultimately achieving a space that feels genuinely lived-in and reflective of her artistic vision.
As soon as I saw it, I knew it was where I needed to be, but it felt more like a blank gallery space than a sanctuary.
Her work felt layered, inviting, and full of character-exactly what I wanted for this space: a surf cabin that felt grounded without being overly designed.
