gabion walls frame tephra's stone shelter along dry riverbed in french mineral landscape
Briefly

Architectural studio TEPHRA has unveiled the Refuge of Stones near the Eau Morte riverbed in Faverges, France, for the 2024 Festival of Cabins. Designed to engage with its natural surroundings, the structure features gabion walls made from seven tons of stones sourced from the dry riverbed. This installation invites visitors to reflect on the geological processes of erosion and renewal. With a long wooden bench and a striking ribbon window, the shelter emphasizes the interplay of light and nature, evoking memories of water and encouraging a deeper connection with the landscape.
The installation connects architecture with nature and introduces visitors to the cyclical processes of erosion and renewal, offering a meditative retreat within the riverbed.
Inside, the French team of TEPHRA includes a long wooden bench that offers a place to sit and observe, highlighting the landscape's natural transformations.
