The Jaipur City Palace has launched the Jaipur Contemporary Art (JCA) gallery, dedicated to contemporary art and marking a significant new chapter in the city’s artistic legacy. Founded by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II in 1727, Jaipur is renowned for its art and architecture. The gallery, a 2,600 sq. ft exhibition space, is the first of its kind within a working Indian palace. Headed by Padmanabh Singh of the former royal family, the JCA aims to contribute to the modern cultural dialogue, filling a gap in the city's contemporary art offerings.
Maharaja Jai Singh II set the tone for forward-thinking rulers of Jaipur...the JCA is a chance to contribute to the contemporary cultural conversation of my city.
This city has immense craft heritage but lacks a contemporary art scene-yet.
My family has long been part of the contemporary conversation-this is a natural step.
The JCA was conceived in partnership with Jaipur-based art adviser Noelle Kadar, who serves as its director.
