Park Associati's latest project in Milan transforms a former agricultural consortium into a dynamic student living space. Accommodating over 700 students, the design honors the site's industrial heritage from the 1940s while incorporating modern elements. A crucial courtyard acts as a communal area, enhancing interactions among students. By integrating a contemporary extension alongside the historic structure, the project balances old and new architecturally. This adaptive reuse approach not only preserves memory but also fosters a community-oriented environment for learning and socializing.
"Our vision was to honor the site's industrial heritage while creating spaces that nurture both learning and community," explains Filippo Pagliani.
"Rather than erasing the past, we've allowed it to guide us toward new possibilities for student living."
"We wanted to create a place where students could move fluidly between focused study and spontaneous connection."
The original building retains its powerful industrial presence through grey plaster and sandstone, now crowned by a contemporary addition that seems to float above the historic facade.
