Aki Hamada Architects completed a new headquarters in Yamanashi Prefecture, embodying a contemporary symbol of Mt. Oboshi. The building, designed for a recycling business, respects the natural landscape by utilizing the Kake-zukuri architectural tradition without leveling the terrain. A unique voxel-based structural system employs modern metal jointing with timber beams and columns, allowing for future expansion. The thoughtful design integrates walls, windows, and equipment into a cohesive timber framework, producing a structure that combines rationality with expressive architecture and showcases timber's material logic.
The building is perched on terraced land overlooking the Fuji River and Mt. Fuji beyond, designed as a contemporary architectural symbol of the nearby Mt. Oboshi.
AHA uses a voxel-based structural system, inspired by computational modeling, allowing flexibility for future expansion and drawing from traditional timber-based construction.
The design integrates practical features into the structure, embedding wall panels and window frames within the timber framework, creating a rational yet expressive design language.
