The Denver Broncos are reportedly close to reaching a $13 million per year deal with defensive tackle D.J. Jones, aiming to secure a key player ahead of free agency. Since joining the Broncos with a three-year, $30 million contract in 2022, Jones has shown remarkable performance, including forcing three fumbles and achieving 42 tackles in a rotational capacity during the past season. Despite a slight decrease in playing time due to added talent on the defensive line, Jones remains a core element of the team's strategy to strengthen their defense.
The Broncos are close to reaching a deal with defensive tackle D.J. Jones at around $13 million per year, a source told ESPN's Jeremy Fowler on Sunday.
Jones went on to have two of his most productive seasons overall. In 2023, he forced three fumbles with five tackles for loss from the interior.
As the Broncos added players each offseason, Jones saw his playing time decrease some, with teams continuing to build their defenses around core pieces.
Jones, a sixth-round pick in 2017, spent his first five NFL seasons with the San Francisco 49ers and has established himself as a valuable player.
