The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced a 50% increase in the E. coli O157:H7 outbreak linked to McDonald's Quarter Pounder burgers, totaling 75 cases.
Health officials reported an additional 12 hospitalizations, including one new case of hemolytic uremic syndrome, following the outbreak first identified on October 22.
As the outbreak expanded to 13 states, McDonald's paused distribution of slivered onions and pulled the Quarter Pounders from the menu in affected areas.
Taylor Farms, one of McDonald's onion suppliers, voluntarily recalled its yellow onion products, indicating precaution despite not finding E. coli in its testing.
