Investigators search Gaza for cases of polio after the virus turns up in wastewater
Briefly

The virus has turned up in the enclave's wastewater. For more than 25 years, the Gaza Strip has been polio free. Then last week polio was detected in six out of seven routine sewage samples.
Teams of investigators arrived in Gaza to search for active polio cases, collecting stool samples, interviewing parents, and examining medical records. The virus is likely circulating silently.
Genomic sequencing by the CDC linked the Gaza strain to one from Egypt, suggesting possible entry before the conflict. Valuable information that's crucial, says Dr. Olakunle Alonge.
