Tamale balls are a spicy and flavorful variation of traditional hot tamales, popular in New Orleans. They are made with Mexican spices and corn meal, providing an authentic taste and texture reminiscent of tamales. These meatballs can be served as an appetizer or placed on a bun, topped with cheddar cheese for a delicious sandwich. They also pair well with sides like Mexican rice, making them versatile for various gatherings and occasions, especially as a favorite dish among guests.
Whenever we have a get together, I am asked to bring tamale balls. Here in New Orleans, hot tamales are a delicacy.
These spicy little meatballs are very interesting. Full of Mexican spices, the added corn meal really gives them the flavor and texture of tamales.
Serve them alone or on a bun as Stacy suggests. We could see serving these tamale balls with Mexican rice too.
