In a shift towards sustainability, some families are opting for electric grills over traditional propane or charcoal grills. Stoio Kachev and Doanh Nghiem, who switched for convenience and environmental concerns, highlight the ease of simply plugging in the electric grill without additional fuel costs. They emphasize the benefits of electrification in their home, which includes a range of appliances powered by cleaner energy. Though upfront costs may vary due to electrical outlet installations, electric grilling is often more economical and helps reduce reliance on fossil fuels, aligning with broader climate solutions.
"You can choose what temperature you want," Kachev says, setting it to 500 degrees Fahrenheit on the digital display. "So you see it's at 152 now and it'll take about 15 minutes to get to 500."
"We used to have a gas grill, and we used to go buy propane. Not only is it getting more expensive, but it's just a pain to lug [tanks] around," Nghiem says.
Switching from a fossil fuel-burning device to an electric one called electrification is a key climate solution, especially as they are powered by electricity generated from an increasingly cleaner grid.
Grilling with electricity is nearly always cheaper than propane, though if you don't have an outdoor outlet already, that might involve paying more to hire an electrician.
