In our latest taste test, we hunted down a bourbon for every palate. The whiskey aisle can be overwhelming, but good bourbon enhances classic cocktails and recipes.
Lew Bryson explains that 'Whiskey is fermented from grain, distilled, and aged in wood.' Bourbon has its unique manufacturing rules, made from at least 51% corn.
Bourbon must be aged in a new barrel of charred oak. Bryson describes this charring as essential: 'When you char the barrel, you're turning it into a flavor crucible.'
Bourbon has no minimum aging requirement, but most are aged for at least two years, enhancing their flavor profile and making them versatile for various drinks.
