On June 19, 1982, a young Chinese American man named Vincent Chin was killed by two white men in Detroit on the night of his bachelor party His assailants, Ronald Ebens and Michael Nitz, misidentified Chin as Japanese, blamed him for losing their jobs as autoworkers, and beat him to death with a baseball bat.
