Why people are losing it over Ferrari's first all-electric car

Ferrari unveiled its first all-electric vehicle, the Ferrari Luce, named after the Italian word for “light.” The car is expected to cost about $640,000 and was designed by Jony Ive and Marc Newson through LoveFrom. The Luce uses an electric powertrain to enable a “radically new architecture,” creating a more spacious layout than typical sports cars. Ive said the design aimed to explore new opportunities from the electric power source while moving beyond the visceral engagement and engine noise of the past. The vehicle includes more than 60 new patents and features a shell-like, glass-house concept with a light, airy interior. Online reactions criticized the look as lacking Ferrari DNA, while others noted its Apple-like design cues.

Its shell-like form is reminiscent of a computer mouse, as if the whole top is a multi-touch trackpad you can click. The exterior design is built on the concept of a glass house with a light and airy interior."
