Courtney Merkt, a 27-year-old Pinole resident, was killed in a shooting at a local gas station on March 23 while inside a 2022 Tesla Model Y. The suspects, not publicly identified, were seen arriving in a Hyundai at the same gas station.
The shooting occurred shortly after Merkt returned to her car and sat in the driver's seat, with two suspects firing at the Tesla before fleeing the scene. The abandoned car was later found in another part of Oakland.
Authorities mentioned that the gas station where the shooting occurred had previous incidents, with the suspects being persons of interest in robberies that took place before Merkt's homicide. Merkt was Oakland's 18th known homicide victim of 2024.
Police and Crime Stoppers of Oakland are offering a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the arrest of the killer. Those with information can contact the police or Crime Stoppers.
