Mercedes Reinvents Brakes For EVs, Puts Them Inside The Drive Unit
Briefly

Mercedes has developed an innovative in-drive braking system for electric vehicles, virtually maintenance-free, trapping brake dust, environmentally friendly, promising to eliminate brake fade.
This new braking system showcases a departure from traditional setups, using a water-cooled, stationary disk and a spinning circular brake pad for improved efficiency and longevity.
Unlike conventional outboard brakes, Mercedes' in-drive brakes do not require a caliper, achieving speed reduction by pressing the brake pad against the stationary brake disk.
By integrating the brakes within the drive unit, Mercedes envisions a system that enhances the regenerative braking capability of electric vehicles while minimizing wear and tear.
