Peter Rawlinson, CEO and CTO of Lucid Motors, envisions the company as more than just a car manufacturer. In a recent interview, he expressed a goal of generating 80% of revenue from licensing its electric vehicle powertrains to other car manufacturers. He likens Lucid's future positioning to Intel's role in personal computing. As part of this strategy, Lucid aims to use its own car models, like the Air, as showcases for its technology while significantly ramping up production by the early 2030s.
I'd love it to be 20-80. Twenty percent doing cars, 80% licensing.
We need the cars as a shop window for our product.
Just as there's an Intel inside your laptop, there's a Lucid inside a Honda or a Toyota.
Lucid targets production of 1 million cars per year by the early 2030s, up from around 9,000 in 2024.
