Alejandro Valencia-Torres Jr. accepted a plea deal resulting in a 10-year prison sentence for vehicular manslaughter after a crash that killed a passenger, Kenia Hernandez-Berber.
In exchange for pleading no contest to vehicular manslaughter, prosecutors dropped other charges including murder and hit-and-run, allowing Valencia-Torres a potential term reduction for good behavior.
Valencia-Torres was under monitoring for two-and-a-half years after his release on a $75,000 bail, during which he committed minor violations but showed no alcohol use.
The crash on Valentine's Day 2021 resulted in the death of Kenia Hernandez-Berber, who was thrown from the car; Valencia-Torres fled the scene but was later apprehended.
