Critics Say EVs Are A Fire Hazard. Here's What The Latest Data Shows
Briefly

Recent data from Poland's State Fire Service indicates that electric vehicles (EVs) do not catch fire more frequently than traditional combustion vehicles. In the first half of a year, EVs made up less than 0.5% of vehicle fires reported, while 98.4% involved combustion vehicles. The study noted both EVs and internal combustion vehicles had the same fire incident rate of 0.23 fires per 1,000 registered vehicles. The main causes of EV fires were malfunctions, fires spreading from other sources, and accidents, with battery failures being less common.
In Poland, less than 0.5% of vehicle fires involved electric vehicles (EVs), with the vast majority being combustion-powered, showing parity in incident rates.
The EV market share in Poland was only 8% as of July, but the rates of vehicle fires per 1,000 registered vehicles for both EVs and combustion vehicles were equal.
