The pursuit began when an officer saw a vehicle strike a city fence at about 4 p.m. Monday, Nov. 4, resulting in a reckless chase.
Shortly after the officer stopped the pursuit, the driver accelerated and flew off a cliff, crashing onto the beach below, suffering life-threatening injuries.
California authorities confirmed that the driver, although gravely injured, is expected to survive after the crash that followed a police chase.
