Delta Air Lines announced a compensation of $30,000 to each passenger aboard a regional jet that crashed while landing in Toronto, with all 80 individuals surviving. One passenger remains hospitalized as 21 received treatment for injuries. The airline stated the compensation has 'no strings attached', safeguarding passengers' rights. Experts have praised the plane's design and the crew's rapid response for the lack of fatalities. An investigation is underway regarding the crash's cause, amidst rising scrutiny on flight safety following another recent incident.
The payment offered to passengers 'has no strings attached' and does not affect their rights, a spokesperson for Delta said in an email Wednesday evening.
Experts credited the aircraft design and the cabin crew's quick response with the fact that there were no fatalities on the flight, operated by Minneapolis-based regional airline Endeavor Air.
Delta chief executive Ed Bastian said, 'Our Endeavor crew performed heroically.' He commended the crew for their professionalism and said safety is 'embedded into our system.'
The cause of Monday's crash is still unknown, with the Transportation Safety Board of Canada currently investigating.
