YRP Chief Jim MacSween reported a dramatic increase in violent crimes for the year, with a staggering 92% rise in shootings and a 106% rise in carjackings compared to last year.
MacSween mentioned that there have been 15 homicides this year, up from 8 this time last year, emphasizing that these incidents are often targeted.
He reassured residents that the region remains very safe, yet acknowledged the distressing nature of these incidents for both residents and officers.
MacSween attributed the surge in violent crimes to organized crime rings, highlighting their role in increased gun violence and conflicts affecting businesses.
