Over three years, six Apple employees participated in a scheme that falsely reported charity donations to manipulate the company's matching program, leading to a loss of $152,000.
The employees tricked Apple into matching donations to charities they controlled, subsequently refunding the donations back to themselves without informing the company, a breach of trust.
Faced with serious charges including grand theft and tax fraud, the former employees are accused of exploiting the company’s charitable matching system for personal benefit.
District Attorney Jeff Rosen commented, 'It's the holidays. Give - legally - to help the needy, not to help yourself,' emphasizing the moral aspect of the employees' actions.
