The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning for the Lake Tahoe and Truckee region, forecasting 2-3 feet of snow in higher elevations.
"Right now, we have a pretty good line of moderate to heavy rainfall... with heavier snowfall expected later this evening into tomorrow morning," said meteorologist Dakari Anderson.
The Sierra Avalanche Center warned of a 'powerful storm' that could trigger 'widespread avalanche activity in the mountains'.
"We're still looking to see the majority of the precipitation falling overnight tonight, with some rain in the valley and some snow flurries as well," noted Gigi Giralte.
