Michael Todd Merryman has pled guilty to killing three individuals, including a 75-year-old woman, Pamela Castleberry, during a home invasion in April 2024. Following the murder, he attempted to conceal his crime by disposing of Castleberry's body in her SUV. After realizing the body was discovered, he fatally shot two accomplices who were strangers. Merryman will be sentenced to life without parole plus an additional 126 years to life in prison. His crimes occurred in Lakehead, California, which lies northwest of Sacramento.
In an attempt to cover up the murder, Merryman cleaned up the blood and put (Castleberry's) body into her SUV. The SUV and her body were later found on a remote property.
Merryman wasn't aware of that when he recruited Cynthia Duran and Louis Sanchez - who were strangers to him - to help him retrieve (Castleberry's) SUV from the property.
When Merryman realized the SUV and body were gone, he shot and killed 41-year-old Duran and 48-year-old Sanchez, firing through the window.
Merryman crashed the truck, abandoned the dog near the road, and wandered into the woods. The dog was rescued.
