City officials said they need to clear the site to begin soil testing and assess which kinds of environmental remediation are needed before housing can be built there.If all goes smoothly, the site will be ready for occupancy in 2027 or 2028."The city of Oakland is committed to addressing both the needs of the unhoused on the lot and other residents needing shelter and housing," Assistant City Administrator LaTonda Simmons said in a statement.
