"Unless we strike, our coworkers are going to keep leaving, and our patients are going to keep struggling in an underfunded, understaffed system that doesn't meet their needs," said San Diego psychologist Josh Garcia.
Kaiser claimed it had made strong proposals to improve wages, benefits, and preparation time for therapists, faulting the union for 'slow walking the negotiation process.'
The strike follows a year after Kaiser’s $200-million settlement with California regulators over excessive therapy appointment wait times, which included a $50-million penalty.
Despite ongoing negotiations, Kaiser stated it had previously ramped up its mental health care spending significantly, with more than $1 billion allocated to improve services.
