East Bay police sergeant on site of one crash injured in another one
"ANTIOCH - A man suspected of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol collided with an Antioch police car early Friday, sending a sergeant to the hospital, police said. The driver also was hospitalized in the crash that happened just before 2 a.m. at the intersection of A Street and W. 10th Street. Both the police sergeant and the suspect have been released and are expected to recover."
"Lt. Joe Njoroge in a statement said police arrested the 31-year-old driver on suspicion of DUI. Njoroge said the driver also was speeding before the crash. Jail records did not list him in custody on Friday afternoon. According to Njoroge, officers were at the intersection because of an earlier crash that happened about 1 a.m. Patrol officers were on the roadway and positioned to provide traffic control while the investigation into the early crash was ongoing."
A suspected impaired driver struck an Antioch police vehicle just before 2 a.m. at A Street and W. 10th Street, sending a sergeant and the driver to the hospital. The 31-year-old driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI and was reported to have been speeding prior to the crash. Officers had been at the intersection providing traffic control after an earlier crash about 1 a.m. Contra Costa County Fire Protection District personnel assisted in removing both the sergeant and the driver from their vehicles. Jail records did not list the driver in custody Friday afternoon; both were later released and expected to recover.
