Advocates and lawmakers are rallying for new bills to promote the electrification of existing buildings in California, with a focus on heat pump installation.
The California Energy Commission emphasizes that the new building code will save nearly $5 billion in energy costs and significantly reduce carbon emissions.
Vice Chair Siva Gunda stated, 'Our climate is changing very fast... it is an absolute need for us to act as quickly as we can.'
The new code doesn't mandate replacing all gas appliances but encourages heat pumps through stricter efficiency standards, allowing local governments to set replacement requirements.
