The crime occurred in 2021 when Alvarez shot Fierro six times, displaying premeditated intent as he waited for Fierro to leave his home. Prosecutors highlighted Alvarez's troubling internet searches related to his ex's fiancé before the shooting. The conviction has left the community in mourning, especially as Fierro was a beloved teacher, with his fiancée expressing deep sorrow over his tragic loss during the sentencing.
"The defendant ambushed the victim and repeatedly shot him to death in a most cowardly and cruel manner," said District Attorney Summer Stephan.
"Now to share about the man I love. Mario was loyal, genuine, hilarious ... One moment, Mario and I were planning our wedding, and the next moment, our loved ones were planning his funeral," Amy Gembara.
