Southwest Airlines has begun offering buyouts and extended leaves to airport workers as a way to manage overstaffing due to aircraft delivery delays.
Officials stated that the voluntary separation offers target ground operations roles, as the airline seeks to cut 2,000 jobs from its current workforce.
The airline highlights that it has been forced to reduce capacity and make workforce adjustments due to a constrained fleet caused by significant Boeing delivery delays.
Boeing has faced production issues, leading to Southwest revising its expected new aircraft delivery from 85 to just 20 for this year.
