Globally, each departure at Ikea cost $5,000 or more to replace. By 2022, 62,000 employees were leaving annually, about a third of the workforce. Ikea focused on boosting pay, flexibility, and technology to retain staff effectively.
Voluntary turnover in the US decreased from a third to a quarter of employees by the end of 2023. Globally, the quit rate across the parent company's 600+ stores dropped to 17.5% from 22.4% in August 2022.
