DBS CEO Tan Su Shan's one big lesson for getting through Trump's tariffs: 'Diversify' | Fortune
""If you only sell to the U.S., you have to diversify," Tan said at the Fortune Most Powerful Women Summit on Tuesday."
""China and India, historically, are not that close," Tan said. "This might actually create more opportunities for Chinese and Indian companies to do more together, certainly on the supply chain.""
""It's my job as a CEO to be the chief energy officer, to give energy to the team and make sure that everyone is headed in the right direction," she said."
Tan Su Shan became CEO of DBS in March, days before U.S. tariffs escalated. DBS serves clients across China, Southeast Asia, and India and faced challenges from broad-based U.S. tariffs. Tan emphasized diversification, noting that relying solely on U.S. demand necessitates diversifying markets. She said tariffs could spur closer China-India commercial ties and supply-chain cooperation. Relations had been cool since deadly 2020 border clashes, though direct flights resumed earlier this year. Tan said building trust will take time but that opportunities are present. As DBS's first female CEO, she downplayed titles and called her role 'chief energy officer,' focused on energizing the team.
