The NYPD has asked for public assistance following a disturbing rape incident that occurred in the Bronx, where a 25-year-old woman was assaulted by a man claiming to have a weapon.
Despite being a block from the 52nd Precinct's headquarters and close to the New York Botanical Garden, the suspect approached the victim unannounced and carried out the attack.
Law enforcement indicates that rape statistics may not reflect the true extent of the issue, with the 52nd Precinct reporting 32 rapes this year compared to 27 last year, highlighting the underreporting of such crimes.
Detectives have released images of the suspect, described as having a slim build and dark complexion, appealing for public help to locate him.
