""I knew it was going to be a huge change, but I also knew I was ready.""
""When I got back home, I realized that no one was selling true Scandinavian furniture; I was buying vintage things but really loved teak wood.""
Teak New York, founded by Caitlin Maestrini in March 2022, has transitioned from a small pop-up in NoHo to a 4,000-square-foot main store in Greenpoint. The store specializes in Scandinavian contemporary design and includes a cafe. Maestrini's background as a teacher and her education at Sotheby's Institute of Art inspired her to fill a market gap for true Scandinavian furniture. The first year was a transformative learning experience focused on education and sustainable practices.
