The Ben-Bay Kiwanis Club and Saint Athanasius Boy Scout Troop 99 hosted the annual NYPD Chief Joseph Esposito Appreciation Day on March 28, celebrating his 75th birthday. The event drew around 200 attendees, honoring Esposito, the longest-serving chief in NYC history, who died in 2024. This year’s Leadership By Example award went to Peter DeBlasio, a close friend of Esposito. Speakers highlighted Esposito's profound legacy, noting his dedication to public service and the importance of community support for the NYPD.
"I am so grateful to receive this award, DeBlasio said. From the moment I met [Esposito], I could tell that he was special a genuine human being and an exceptional leader."
"Brian Long, the event's organizer, referred to Esposito as the most consequential civil servant New York has ever had. He worked practically his whole life until the day he died."
