MTA bus strikes elderly man crossing NYC street, leaving him in critical condition, surveillance footage shows

An MTA bus collided with an 87-year-old man crossing in a designated crosswalk in Brooklyn, leaving him in critical condition. The incident occurred at around 6:40 p.m. on East 12th Street. Witnesses reported that the bus driver seemed inattentive, and the victim was pinned under the bus. After the event, the driver remained on the scene and was taken to a hospital for emotional trauma. No arrests have been made, and the investigation is ongoing.
The 87-year-old pedestrian was approaching the middle of the crosswalk on East 12th Street in Sheepshead Bay when a B36 bus, making a left-hand turn from Avenue Z, collided with the victim at approximately 6:40 p.m.
That bus driver definitely wasn't looking,” a witness told the local Brooklyn station. “It's pretty horrific.”
Paramedics rushed the octogenarian to NYU Langone Brooklyn with 'trauma to his body,' where he is listed in critical condition, police said.
The bus driver stayed at the scene and waited to talk to officers from the Highway Collision Investigation Squad, who are in charge of the investigation, cops said.
