'Iftar on The Go' Brings Brooklyn's Muslim Community Together During Ramadan
Briefly

During Ramadan, volunteers from the Muslim American Society (MAS) in Bath Beach are actively involved in providing meals to community members breaking their fast. This initiative, known as Iftar On The Go, is organized in collaboration with Islamic Relief USA and the city Comptroller's office. Every Sunday evening throughout Ramadan, volunteers gather to pack and distribute meals, fostering a sense of community and religious fulfillment. This program underscores the importance of civic engagement and support for those in need during the holy month.
We fast from sunrise to sunset, Iftar is the sunset meal where we come to break our fast," said Hannah Towfiek the political director at MAS, a community center that provides civic and religious programming.
Every Sunday for the month of Ramadan we all come together as volunteers at 4:00pm and as you see in the back of us we're packing up food to go.
Honestly it feels like I'm fulfilling a religious obligation, especially seeing the youth are engaged and volunteering.
We make sure that each partner in the five boroughs has meals to give out to the community.
