Firefighters battle blaze in Bensonhurst linked to damaged lithium batteries * Brooklyn Paper
Briefly

Fire marshals are probing the cause of a house fire in Bensonhurst, where firefighters responded to heavy flames from a two-story brick building on Sunday morning. The FDNY mobilized about 60 personnel to combat the blaze, initiating multiple hose lines to suppress the flames. During their search, they found three badly charred e-bikes alongside lithium-ion batteries. These hazardous materials prompted the response from Hazmat units, which safely contained the batteries into a drum, ensuring further safety measures were enacted.
Just after 9:12 a.m., firefighters from Engine Company 330 and Tower Ladder 172 arrived at 39 Ave. O. Upon seeing heavy flames from a first-floor window, they quickly assessed the situation leading to a significant deployment of resources. The overhauling efforts took considerable time, particularly managing the lithium-ion batteries which posed additional risks. Firefighters successfully quelled the main body of the fire by 9:53 a.m., and remarkably, no injuries were reported which underscores their effective response.
