New York Attorney General Letitia James has confirmed that Shamco Management Corp. engaged in discriminatory practices against low-income renters, violating numerous human rights laws.
The OAG's thorough investigation revealed that Shamco not only denied rental opportunities to voucher holders but actively misled and ignored them based on their financial status.
Attorney General James emphasized that housing is a fundamental human right, and discriminatory practices like those of Shamco worsen the housing crisis for New Yorkers.
As a consequence of their actions, Shamco will pay $400,000 in restitution to renters and commit to renting 65 units to those with housing subsidies.
