"Bar Ferdinando is Sal Lamboglia's fourth business, including his neighboring dining places Cafe Spaghetti, Swoony's, and Sal Tang's. In fact, Ferdinando's Focacceria owner Francesco "Frank" Buffa picked Lamboglia to take over the address after Buffa decided to shutter the restaurant in February 2025."
"At Bar Ferdinando, for cocktails, expect aperitivi, amaro-based drinks, martinis, vermouths, and a take on the Manhattan Special, the iconic Brooklyn-based espresso soda. Since it's a lunchtime spot, there's coffee and espresso too."
"The daytime menu includes some familiar dishes from its predecessor, like the Sicilian rice balls and octopus salad, along with others such as the eggplant caponata and insalata di mare. The focaccia sandwiches include the famous pane e panelle, with chickpea ravioli, using the same Ferdinando's Focacceria recipe."
Bar Ferdinando, opening April 15 at 151 Union Street in Carroll Gardens, is Sal Lamboglia's fourth restaurant venture, taking over the iconic 121-year-old Ferdinando's Focacceria space. The original owner, Francesco Buffa, selected Lamboglia to continue the legacy after closing in February 2025. The new establishment combines a bar program featuring aperitivi, amaro drinks, martinis, and a Brooklyn Manhattan Special variation with daytime cafe service. The menu honors Ferdinando's heritage with signature items like pane e panelle and Sicilian rice balls while adding new dishes such as eggplant caponata and insalata di mare. Pastry chef Jackie De La Barrera brings expertise in bomboloni and Sicilian desserts. Bar manager Ricardo Echeverri, previously at Swoony's, leads the beverage program.
