A crane failure in East Boston resulted in a floating dock falling into Boston Harbor, crushing a boat and causing damage to a nearby wooden pier. Thankfully, there were no injuries reported. The dock came loose from the crane as it was being positioned into the water, prompting a response from multiple agencies to stabilize the situation and mitigate further damage.
Boston Fire Department officials stated that when the floating dock came loose, it fell directly onto a small boat, which was left partially submerged. Images shared on social media depicted the destruction, highlighting significant damage not only to the boat but also to the pier in the vicinity.
Following the crane failure, divers were deployed to assess the water around the damaged boat to ensure that no individuals had fallen into the harbor during the incident. Concurrently, a hazmat team was dispatched to handle fuel that was leaking into the water from the crushed vessel, indicating the seriousness of the situation.
Commissioner Burke addressed media inquiries, confirming the damage caused by the floating dock incident and reassured that no injuries occurred. He noted that multiple agencies were engaged in efforts to stabilize the dock.
